Theresa Estelle Hood Johnson was born on October 27, 1921, in Riesel, Texas to Isom and Lilly Pearl Irving Hood. She was the youngest of five children.
She attended Elementary and High School in Riesel, Texas. She attended Nazareth Baptist Church in Perry, Texas, and Providence Baptist Church in Marlin, Texas where she lived most her early life.
Theresa was a faithful member of Pleasant Olive Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Choir member, Sunday School Teacher, and Liberian.
Theresa Hood Johnson has been a resource of wisdom, encouragement, and strength. Her motivation was very clear it was God’s Amazing Grace. She has left a huge impact on all of us.
She married Rev. Horace Hayes and to this union, three children were born, Edna Faye Hayes, Billy Joe Hayes, and Ronnie Hayes. In later years she married Charles Edward Johnson and to their union one son, Charles Edward Johnson Jr. was born.
She relocated to Waco, Texas where she opened Modernistic Beauty Salon. She was later employed at the Veteran Administration Office for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Isom and Lilly Hood; one sister, Helen Sneed; three brothers, D.V. Hood, Marvis Hood and Ocie Hood; two sons, Billy Joe Hayes and Charles Edward Johnson Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, E. Faye Hayes Garrison of Freemont, California; one son, Tarik Sneed (Ronnie Hayes) of Marlin, Texas; eleven grandchildren; great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren and a host of devoted relatives and friends.
