Shirley was born November 7, 1943, in Riesel, Texas to James Woods and Gertha Baisy, the only girl to four brothers.
She was a member of Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Waco, Texas until her health failed.
Shirley attended A. J. Moore High School, graduating class of 1962 in which she was voted “Miss Popularity.” After high school, Shirley attended Paul Quinn College and McLennan Community College where she acquired her LVN degree in Nursing.
She was a longtime employee of the Waco Veterans Hospital as an LVN Nurse and later joined the pharmacy department as a Technician. She later retired from the VA hospital and enjoyed doing her favorite hobbies. Including spoiling her dog, baby Little Bit Woods, Fishing, working in the yard, and cooking for her family and friends. She will always be remembered for cooking Greens, Beans and Peach Cobbler. She was never without her Cigarettes and Pepsi.
Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Gertha Woods, and brothers, Leroy Hammond, Sherman “Sundown” Boston and Leodis Woods.
Shirley leaves in God’s care to continue her legacy: her son, Joseph (LaSonja) Woods of Waco, Texas; a brother, Walter (Nelda) Baisy of Grambling, Louisiana; two grandchildren, LaMessa Johnson and Marcus Woods both of Waco, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Kayden Brooks and Josiah Johnson both of Waco, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Rose Boston of Waco, Texas and Ernestine Hammond of Abilene, Texas; her North 10th St. family; special friends, Gloria Shields of Waco, Texas and Roger (Janet) Woods of McGregor, Texas; and a loving host of other relatives and friends.
