Rev. Sherman Robinson Jr.

October 7, 1940 ~ October 20, 2021 (age 81)

Sherman Cornelius Robinson, Jr. was born on October 7, 1940, in Waco, Texas. He is the son of Sherman C. Robinson, Sr., and Katie Mae Satchell Robinson. He was the eldest of four children. He was raised by his grandparents; Jack and Myrtle Robinson in Lubbock, Texas.

In Lubbock, he attended Dunbar Elementary School, grades 1st-7th. As a youth, he served as an usher at Rising Star Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas, where the Reverend Stanley was Pastor. He later moved to Robinson, where he attended Downsville High School and graduated in 1960.

On January 14, 1961, Sherman married his high school sweetheart Ruby Fields and they were blessed with six children, three girls, and three boys.

In July of 1961, he enlisted in the United States Army and served as a corporal in the medical field in El Paso, Texas. He then served two years in Germany and was honorably discharged in June 1964. Sherman also worked for the Pure Milk Co., T.S.T.I., the Sheriff’s Department, and Central Freight Line; and owned a service station business in Rosenthal. From 1974-1976 he took accounting classes at 4-C College. He also attended Seminary classes at Baylor University.

In September 1982, he was called to preach his first sermon of God’s Holy Word at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Downsville, Texas. This began a 38-year journey of leading souls to God through leadership in ministry and pastorialships at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Community Missionary Baptist Church, Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church, and Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. In 1998, the Lord led Pastor Robinson to step out on faith (2 Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.) to organize and be the founding Pastor of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church of Waco, Texas where he proudly served for 14 years. Upon retiring as lead pastor, Sherman moved his membership back to his childhood home church of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church where he remained a dedicated member until his demise.

Pastor Sherman Robinson was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Jack and Katie Washington; father, Sherman Robinson Sr.; brother, Jack Robinson; sister, Mary Dean; son, Zachary Robinson and great-granddaughter,  Audreanna Robinson.

He leaves to cherish: his faithful and devoted wife of 60 years, Mrs. Ruby Robinson; brother, Johnny Robinson; three daughters, Julia (Odale) Thomas, Stephanie (Ronnie) Thomas and Tracy (Royce) Hill; three sons, Roderick (Terri) Robinson, Sherman (Karmen) Robinson III, and Gary (Candie) Clay; devoted nephew, Keith Taylor; and a host of caring grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
