Otha Johnson Jr.

Otha David Johnson, Jr. known as “O.D” was born August 25, 1943, to the parentage of Otha David Sr. and Emma Johnson in West, Texas.

He lived in West throughout his early education, a graduate of the Dunbar High School Class of 1961. O.D. furthered his education at Prairie View A&M, where he received his Bachelors. He later received his Masters from Central Michigan University. Education was highly valued throughout his life and he encouraged many to pursue academic education.  

O.D.’s passion for such was continuously shown and shared through his teaching and tutoring throughout his years at Tarrant County College.

On, March 7, 1964, he married his high school sweetheart, Lelia Marie McGowan. To this union, two sons were born, Otha David III and Brian Keith. They celebrated 42 years of marriage before her earthly departure in August 2006.

One could easily identify O.D. as a man being strong, hardworking, dedicated and committed to that in which he believed. The love for his family was beyond reproach. His love and pride for his sons was immeasurable. He took immense joy in watching his grandchildren grow, as he celebrated in each of their accomplishments. 

In September of 2008, Otha married Leslie Marneese Johnson.

Otha D. Johnson, Jr. completed his earthly mission on April 26, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Lelia M. Johnson.

He will be forever loved and remembered by his family. 

He leaves to cherish: his wife, Leslie Marneese Johnson; sons, Otha Johnson III (Marion Stevens) and Brian Keith Johnson (Ashleigh); grandchildren, Briana, Jelani, Declan and Ryleigh; brother, Norman Johnson (Shirley); nephews, Norman Johnson Jr., (Miikii) and Michael Johnson (Seletha); uncle, Harvey L. Griggs (Annie Pearl); aunt, Rosetta Griggs-Hooks, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
