Obituary

Mrs. Mae Bell Hickman was born to Henry and Irene Bowen in Mendenhall, Mississippi.

She received her formal education at Mt. Olive High School in Mississippi then later attended college out of state.

She married Eddie Hickman Sr. and eight children were born to this union. They also had a beloved daughter Mildred Butler and son Ivory Joe Hickman.

The Hickman family moved to Waco, Texas in 1972 where they joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.

Mae Bell loved God, her family, her friends, and all the residents of Ma Bell’s Place.

She spent her life as an educator and caregiver.

She saw the good in everyone she came in contact with and showed kindness to all.  She opened her doors to those in need and reached out with welcoming arms.

Mae Bell was called to God for eternal rest on Friday, August 6, 2021, in Waco, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eddie Hickman Sr.; parents Henry and Irene Bowen; siblings, George Bowen, Daniel Bowen, Mary Little, Lee Bell Price, Clara Mae Mangum; children, Charles, Johnny, and Ivory Joe Hickman, Mildred Butler, Rose Johnston, Virginia Donahue and Alice Hickman, and granddaughter Shannon Trego.

She leaves to cherish all her wonderful and precious memories: her children, Jerry Hickman (Angela), Gloria McVea (James), and Eddie Hickman, Jr. (Renee);  20 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
