Mae Griffin Obituary

Sadie, as she preferred to be called, was one of the beautiful and loving children born to proud parents, Mr. Thad Mason Sr., and Mrs. Irene Williams Mason. They named their daughter Mae Elmer Mason born December 5, 1927. Sadie attended elementary school in Hewitt, Texas and attended the famous A.J. Moore High School in Waco, Texas along with her sisters and brothers.

Sadie accepted Christ at an early age at Pleasant Olive Missionary Baptist Church which led to the entire Mason Family moving their membership to the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, under the late Rev. R.L. Baily. The Mason Family is still attending church there today.  Sadie later moved to La Porte, Texas in April of 1949 and began working in a restaurant. Her sister Pearl called and asked Sadie to move to Houston to be close to her and her brother-in-law Nelson.  Sadie remained in Houston until she ascended to be with the Lord.

Sadie excelled in provided exemplary services to the Evans Family, The Lesch Family, and The Stinson Family for many years until her retirement.

She was a devoted member of Abundant Harvest Church in Houston, Texas under the leadership of Pastor (Professor) Harold J. Marshall and First Lady Shirley Marshall, where she was known as Mother Griffin throughout most of the greater Houston area churches. She was a member of the Mission Board, Sunday School, Wednesday Night Bible Studies, and Telephone Prayer Ministry.  Whatever the church needed help with Sadie was there to do her best. Sadie and members of the Mission Board visited hospitals, nursing homes, and others sick and shut-in, praying for their health and recovery. When Sadie came to Waco to visit family during the holidays or attend funerals, she continued her missionary work visiting hospitals, nursing homes, and as many who were sick at home, providing prayer and comfort. Sadie was a great soldier in God’s Army.

In January of 1966, in Houston, Texas, Sadie met the love of her life, S.G. “Steve” Griffin. On March 5, 1988, they married and spent their life together.  On April 15, 2021, after spending 55 years together, God called S.G. home to rest. That day, Sadie lost the love of her life.
