Helen Vincent

Helen Joyce Johnson Vincent was born on January 27, 1942, in Dallas, Texas to Leonard Johnson Sr. and Harriet Session. She was the second oldest of six children.

Her education was at G.W. Carver High School where she played basketball and ran track and field.

She received her religious foundation at the Faith Tabernacle as a child under the pastorage of her grandfather Reverend Ira Brownlow.

She met her ex-husband Melvin Vincent in 1958. They later had five children who they adored very much. Her family was especially important to her. Her love, wisdom, and beliefs will live on for generations to come.

Helen was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, cousin, and friend. She is known to many as “Mama Helen”, “Baby Helen”, “Me Mae”, “G Maw” and many more, but mainly she was our world and our joy.

Helen enjoyed playing cards and dominoes. She loved cooking and most of all loved gathering with her family. She was well known for opening her home and heart to anyone in need.

She entered into eternal rest on October 20, 2021.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Johnson Sr. and Harriet Session; grandparents, Ira Brownlow and Bertha Brownlow and her eldest brother, Roy McChristian Jr.

She leaves to cherish her love and memory: five devoted children, Altaniece Brown, Melvilyn Watford and husband, Michael, Roslyn Vincent, Janine Lucas and husband, (Carlos) and Melvin Vincent II; and a loving host of other relatives and friends.
