Gladys Marie Simmons was born on June 1, 1934 to Nolan Jones Sr. and Eula Scott Jones in Waco, Texas. She was the third of eight children.
She attended Moore High School in Waco, Texas. She united with Liberty Hill Baptist Church at an early age and later united with Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Waco, Texas.
Gladys was a devoted member and served as a choir member, head of culinary department, part of the women’s ministry, and a faithful Sunday school attendee.
She was united in marriage to Travis Simmons Sr. to their union five children were born. She was a dutiful wife and very nurturing mother, always selfless and encouraging her children to excel and do their best. She was a dedicated and loyal friend to all who knew her.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Nolan Jones Sr. and Eula Jones, husband, Travis Simmons Sr., son, Michael Simmons, and siblings, Nolan, Eula, Martha, Josie, Herman, and Cornelius (Jones).
She ascended on Sunday, January 28, 2024. She will be deeply missed. She leaves to cherish her memories: four children, Travis Simmons Jr., Darlene Cashaw (Earnest), Sandra Cashaw (Fred) and Cheryl Henderson; brother, Melvin Hibbler (Cheryl); grandchildren, Natasha Pearson, Tierre Simmons (Tiffany), Jehrome White (Genetra), Celvah White, Montrae Kennedy, Michael Kennedy Jr. (Stephanie), Ty’Ria Burr, Harrell Henderson Jr., KyAsia Cashaw, Jordan Henderson and Marlon Majors; 15 great grandchildren; and a host of life long friends, loving nieces, nephews, church family, and relatives too many to mention.
