Florida Mae Lewis was born May 12, 1936 Centerville, Texas to the union of Leo Lewis and Mary Elizabeth Johnson. She was the eldest baby girl of three siblings.
She attended the public schools in the Centerville ISD.
At an early age, she met and married Jack Brooks on December 22, 1954, and they shared 43 years together and four children Joe, Donald, Johnny, and Mary.
During this time her working career consisted of town cafe, corral cafe, and healthcare part-time in Centerville. She moved from Centerville to Waco in 1993. Shortly after moving, she started working in housekeeping for Baylor University.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and deliverer and united with the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. T.E. Malone which she joined and dedicated her membership until her health began to fail.
Florida was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings and one son, Joe Melvin Brooks. On Sunday, May 2, 2021, the sweet spirit of our dear sister Florida Brooks went to join the savior in that home not built with hands, but whose maker and builder is god.
Loved ones left to cherish her memories and celebrate her life: her sons, Donald Earl Brooks and Johnny Brooks; daughter, Mary Ann Brooks (Releford); 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
