She attended G.W. Carver High School in McGregor, Texas.
She accepted Christ at an early age. In her later years became a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She was a dedicated servant to her church family. She served over 50 years in several positions at Pleasant Hill such as secretary, singing in the choir and preparing resolutions.
In 1963, Florence married Billy D. Newman Sr., and they raised five children. Florence and Billy were married for 60 years until his death in 2023.
She had a short career at Smeads Manufacturing in McGregor, Texas. She earned her GED at McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas. She liked growing flowers, gardening, dancing, traveling and entering different senior citizen contest. But most of all, she enjoyed speeding time with her family.
