Obituary

Doris Grady was born on April 13, 1944 to Russell J. and Ollie Mae Briscoe. She was born and reared in Waco, Texas and later moved to Houston, Texas.

She attended Moore High School (Waco) and later received her GED. She was married to Eddie Harris and to this union three children were born. She later had a child by Mario Smith. She then married Lovette Grady and become a devoted caregiver to him when he was injured while in active duty. She transitioned from this life on April 30, 2021.

One of her first jobs was at Lee’s Drive-In in which she made such an impression on the Lee family that Mr. Lee would ask about her all the time. She later worked at the VA-Waco for over 12 years as a Nursing Assistant. Other jobs Darnell Army Hospital, Houston Post, a group Home (Houston) where she cared for disabled persons and then MD Anderson Cancer Center which she retired after many years of service.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell J. Briscoe and Ollie Mae Briscoe–Harris; paternal grandparents, Benjamin and Luella Briscoe, maternal grandparents, Ivory and Leatha Monroe, two sisters, Georgia M. Briscoe and Lela D. Briscoe, one son, Andre Harris, five uncles, James Briscoe, Sue Watkins, Isaiah Monroe, Ray Monroe and Lonrenga Briscoe, eight aunts, Annie Woods, Mable Hardwick, Lovie Miller, Sarah Jackson, Earnestine Brown, Bernice Gooden, Lois Richards, and Roberta Kendrick.

She leaves to cherish her memories: three children, LaTonia D. Davis, Darryl K. (Misty) Harris and Tracy Harris; grandchildren, TaNechia (Jimmy) Sweat, Terence Davis, Kristen (Sherl) Davis, April (Chris) Helfter, Wyndon Harris, Elise Harris, Chole Harris, Joy Harris, Carmen Harris, Chanelle Harris, Ariauna Harris, Alana Harris, Devonte Harris, Jamil Harris, Brandon Harris, Andre Harris and Demarcus Harris; great grandchildren, Ariel Sweat, Jeremiah Sweat, Kameron Davis, Shawn Davis, Arya Harris, Adrian Harris, Kamari Harris, Easton Harris, Clarke Helfter, Zara Helfter, Xavier Davis, Kaiden Davis, Kya Davis, Xion Davis, Kharsyn Harris and Aubriegh Harris; siblings, Dr. Lula Briscoe-Henry and Claud Harris Jr.; nieces, Wentrass (Donnell) Bailey, Tammy L. Gindratt and Rev. Dr. Tara L. Briscoe; great nieces, LaTorsha Gindratt, TaShea Gindratt, Wrandell Carter, Wryan Brumfield, Wreyna Brumfield and Natalie Jackson; nephew, Nathaniel (LuLanda) Jackson; aunt, Oblee Monroe; uncle, Alton Good; special cousin, Dennis Brown; special family friends, Nechia Harris, Precious Jones, Michael James, and Martha Mitchell and a loving host of other relatives and friends.
