Clarice Burns McGrue was born February 27, 1935 in Mount Calm, Texas to Sylvester Sr. and Beaulah Burns. She was the sixth oldest of ten children.
Her education was received at Phyllis Wheatley High School in Hubbard, Texas where she was an avid reader of the Bible and received an early Christian upbringing at True Vine Baptist Church in Mount Calm, Texas.
She was united in marriage to Melvin Ray McGrue on November 27, 1953, and to this union, four daughters were born. Later she moved to Grapevine, Texas, and became an active member of Mount Horhum Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend O.L. Clark. She served faithfully as secretary, Sunday School Teacher, Deaconess, Church Missionary, Choir Leader, and Member.
She worked for Braniff Federal Credit Union until she retired and moved back to Waco, Texas in 1986. Then she worked as a librarian at University High School and retired early in 2010.
The Lord called his child home on November 5, 2021, after a brief hospital stay.
She’s preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester Sr. and Beaulah Burns; her husband who was called home to the Lord on November 16, 1988, brothers, Sylvester Burns, Jr. and Bobbie Ellis, sisters, Ida Mae Guerna, Lela Mae Martin, Juanita Baye, Lottie Perry, Joyce Jackson and Laura Jo Jackson and one grandson; Brandon Charles Fails.
She leaves to cherish her memory: four daughters, Regina Edwards, Melva McGrue, Valerie Fails (Charles) and Kimberly Trigg; brother, Charles Ray Burns, Sr.; grandsons, Jodfrey Fails, Kenton McGrue, Aaron McGrue and Antrale Edwards; granddaughter, Candice Gaston, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
