Bobby Stevenson Obituary

Bobby Stevenson was born on November 17, 1949 to the late Johnnie Louise Fields-Wells and James Thomas Stevenson. Bobby was raised on the “Tucker Bottom” and truly he adored his grandfather the late James Fields.

Bobby attended Downsville public schools and graduated from Carver High School in 1968. After graduation, he joined the United States Airforce in October of 1969 where he served 4 years and was honorably discharged.  He later joined the Army Reserve, in which he also served for 4 years. In addition, he attended McLennan Community College.

Bobby began working at the tender age of 5 years old with his maternal grandfather on the family farm. After his military service, he was employed at the Veterans Hospital and retired from the United States Postal Service in 2005.

Bobby married the “love of his life” Bernice Horne on March 11, 1972. They recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. To their union two beautiful daughters were born, Effie and Erica Stevenson. He truly adored his wife and children and was a great provider for his family.

He accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful and active member until his health failed. Bobby was ordained as a deacon in the early 1980s. He also served as President of the Brotherhood, Co-Chairman of the Deacons, and Church Treasurer.  He was a member of the Men’s Choir and Brotherhood Ministry.  Some of his favorite gospel songs include: “I’m A Pilgrim”, “When I’m On My Mission Lord”, “God’s Grace”, “The Time Is Now”, “Cooling Water”, and “Lord You’re the Landlord”. He enjoyed leading prayer services and was a powerful prayer warrior. He sincerely loved the Mt. Olive Church family, and he always expressed his love.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas Stevenson Sr. and Johnnie Louise Fields Wells; brothers, Robert Stevenson and Jimmy Stevenson; sister, Clydean Wells Davis; and his brother-in-law, Rev. James A. London.
