Violetta Ritcherson Hicks

Violetta Ritcherson Hicks, the eldest of three children born to the late Solon and Lizzie Mucker Ritcherson, on July 10, 1924 heard God call her name and answered the door to eternal rest on Friday, June 28, 2019 peacefully at home.
With both parents being dedicated members of Antioch Baptist Church, Violetta was baptized as a child and began her journey as a life member of Antioch, being the oldest member in membership at the time of her death. She served in many ministries, often strongly voicing her opinion throughout the years.
Lorenza Hicks found a true friend, soulmate, and loving wife in Violetta. They were a faithful couple for over 20 years until his death.
Wasco ISD both educated and employed Violetta. She attended South Waco Colored School, later named Oakwood Elementary and Moore Junior-Senior High School. She often stated with mixed emotions that she was the last living member of her high school class. After graduating from high school she attended Tillotson College in Austin, Texas receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Education. She was employed by Waco ISD serving as an elementary teacher and counselor for several schools touching the lives of multiple generations.
Sheila Hicks Blanton and Greta Ritcherson Williams assisted Cousin Violetta along with Vesta Hawthorne, Sharon Shields, Carla Shields and her close neighbors. And as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and a supporter of many other activities that enriched the lives of her family, young people and the community. She was a Charter Member of The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated, Gamma Upsilon Chapter. Violetta enjoyed the visits of family and friends often advising them and entertaining them with her words of wisdom and quips.
Violetta was preceded in death by her brother Solon Ritcherson, Jr and survived by her sister Mary Doris Ritcherson, her last living first cousin Lewis and Velma Ritcherson, and other relatives and friends.
